Before getting involved in her own music career, Sybil went to North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University in Greensboro, North Carolina. There, she studied professional speech & theatre arts, and broadcast journalism. During her collegiate career, she gained the achievements of being in the North Carolina Fellow Academic Leadership Honor Society, the student government association, the student union advisory, and was a member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority. By , she graduated from the university. The next year, she obtained a record deal with the American label, Next Plateau Records, and received a licensing deal from the U.K.'s Champion Records. Her debut album, Let Yourself Go, came out at some point in and went to #92 on the U.K. Albums chart. The premier single, "Falling In Love", went to #68 on the UK Singles chart and #29 on Billboard's Hot Dance\Disco Club Play chart, the latter remaining there for seven weeks.
